Advertising on sails
Guys/Ladies are there any restrictions on having advertising on Sonata sails.
We secured some help form a local builder in buying our new sails for the 2010 nations and just wanted to know what the score is. I have looked in the class rules and there does not seem to be a problem but want to make sure. It could impact our decision to travel North this year as we don’t want to use our old sails for the nationals
Thanks in advance

Hi Andy,
ISAF Regulation 20 applies – it states that advertising on sails is permitted as long as it does not obscure the view of the sail numbers and class logo.
Hope to meet you at Helensburgh.

Thanks Peter
Its just what I wanted to know, we have the guys company name on the lower half of the main and spinnaker.
Looking to meeting you at the nationals
Many thanks
Andy

Gents,
The 2010 class rules state
‘Advertising on the boat as chosen by the owner or person in charge is prohibited.’
This however is currently under urgent review by the Sonata Assn committee. Any views both for and against should be posted on this bulletin board.

Hi Martin,
I greatly respect and appreciate your superior knowledge on these issues but the class rules state that Category A applies and I believe that Isaf regulations have withdrawn any reference to Category A or am I wrong?

Hello gents me again,
Martin – I should have read your message more carefully, I have just noticed that you refer to the 2010 edition of the class rules when I can only access the 2008 edition so I guess that I will be wrong.
On the point should we allow advertising I would say yes as that may give others the opertunity to buy sales more frequently and increase their chances of winning. Perhaps what we should also be addressing is the frequency at which you can buy new sails.
Best wishes
Peter

My own feelings are that perhaps we should now allow advertising. I can’t see how it can harm the class and even if mega bucks were thrown at a Sonata – would it make it any quicker – No I don’t think so. Also, we as a Class ask for sponsorship to run our events, it seems hypocritical to then ban it from the boats.
Anyone reading this please take the effort to put your points forward – a decision will have to be reached soon
Best wishes
