I have only had my sonata for one year and this is the first time i have anti fouled it. Whilst checking the hull i noticed flaking and small gaps where the keel joins the hull. It seems to have been filled with isopon….or something like that. Is there a specific filler which should be used for this joint.

We have to refil this gap each year. To date we have used Marine Filler (same as David’s Isopon but marine grade). This year we have decided to use a slightly flexible sealant( can’t remember the name but available from any chandlery). This solution has worked well for other boats.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Many thanks….I’ll try the marine filler this year and see how it goes…..if it doesn’t work to well i might try sealifix.

How has everyone got on with this since the topic was last raised?
We used a flexible filler (unfortunately I can’t remember the make) a couple of seasons ago. It seemed to do the job just about okay, but water go in in a couple of places.
I’m looking to try 3M 4200 but I can’t seem to source it from anywhere, so I might have to go with the Sikaflex. Has anyone used any of these?
The gap is quite large so I wasn’t sure if a non-flexible filler would be better, it is just a pain to remove when you do need to replace it.
Hope everyone’s boat preparation is going okay. It has been horrible weather for it lately. Hoping it warms and dries up soon!

I used ‘Life Caulk’ polysulphide sealant from Boat Life with reasonable success. It did need occasional raking-out and topping-up though. I’d definitely use a flexible sealant.
