Thanks to Jack, and Steve Goacher. I have just done this and it is brilliant. I now don’t get hung up on the shrouds and have only one length of rope to worry about. Thanks again.

Buy a length of line big enough for both sheets and DON’T cut it in two. I’d choose 10mm for comfort but tough guys might go for 8mm. Get half a metre or so of 6mm dyneema or some other strong line and tie it to the middle of your genoa sheet with a double sheet bend. Tie the other end of the 6mm stuff to the clew cringle of your sail with a bowline. The continuous sheet will feed neatly round the mast when you tack, the bowline is easy to undo when you change sails and in emergency you can cut the 6mm line with your bosun’s knife and only waste half a metre, not the whole sheet.
