Does anyone know whether the Sonata Transom is solid or ‘hollow’ in the vicinty of the outboard bracket sliders.
I have purchased a hinging outboard bracket to use whilst cruising so that the motor can be lifted and tilted whilst sailing. This needs to be bolted through the transom, but I am worried that if the transom isnt solid, the tightening of the bolts will distort the inner and outer skins of the transom.
I think it might be hollow as the bolts retaining the standard sliding rails do not go into the cockpit, which implies they are fastened inside the outer skin.
If it is hollow, it will be neccessary to insert something solid in between the skins, but I am not sure how to do this. Possibly a bronze sleeve to the bolts, epoxied into an oversize hole or possibly pushing up a wooden pad from below ?
The grand plan is to fit the tilting bracket in between the standard rails which are left in place. The tilting bracket can be used for cruising, but removed when planning to race when the standard bracket can be used if necessary.
Any comments or advice would be welcome

Its hollow (see correspondence earlier on cockpit drains), so you’ll need to pad the gap somehow. If you want to make it removable why not fix your new bracket to a wooden plate that fits the sliders so you can lift it out? Might need a bit of ingenuity and or some fittings, but much simpler to remove – also moves the bracket back a bit so there is more room to tilt.
