Log paddle wheel placement

Anybody any comments on the best place to fit the paddle wheel for the log before we go and drill a hole in the hull? Currently thinking forward and slightly to one side of the keel.

The best place to fit a log is on the centreline of the boat forward of the keel in the forward locker. The real question is do you really want to drill another hole in the boat which is another possible source of a leak as well as the surrounds of the fitting being something which will slow the boat. Handheld GPS,s are so good now that I would not take the trouble.
