We had a Sonata fleet meeting @ Sunderland on Wed night. Everyone is getting excited about the nationals, getting boats measured and polished etc. It looks like we will have between 13 and 16 local boats with many more to work on! You will be pleased to hear their was plenty of discussion about the social programme in addition to the usual racing topics – more details as they come.
For those of you thinking of travelling you may be interested to know that our annual regatta is taking place on the championship race area between the 25th and 27th of August. This finishes on the morning the nationals starts so their is no overlap. Due to large local fleets it is likely the Sonata’s will have a class start. What better warm up could you ask for? Costs are minimal and as always the beer will be flowing.
If anyone requires further details regarding either event feel free to email me on mnboatman@hotmail.com

It may seem like a long way off, but the Nationals are only 4 months away! Am I the only one excited?!?!?
The event looks like it will be a brilliant week, especially as you can check out the competition in the Roker Regatta before hand.
And you can even leave your boat “up-north” for the Northerns if you fancy it.
For those of you who don’t know Sunderland Yacht Club, I can let you into a secret, Its a fantastic yacht club!
Firstly, the most important area, the bar! We have a great bar, ran by Gail our bar manager. Lots of good beer and also real Ales!
We also have a Galley, ran by Andy and Carolyn, providing excellent food. From breakfasts and lunches to 3 course dinners, and he makes a mean curry!
The club house has excellent views of the bay and the racing can be viewed from a great vantage point.
The club has ample changing and showering facilities, which means camping in the club grounds is as good as any campsite.
Our grass area in front of the club is available for tents etc.
Our sailing facilities are helped by having our own crane, this means no extra costs to put your boat in the water. And as we have so many sonata owners in the club, there we be plenty of experienced people to help you launch.
I’m sure you can tell that I’m really looking forward to it, and i’ve splashed out on some new sails! This is in the hope that I can improve on our position in last years Northerns, I was last!
So hope to see you there, I’m the short woman on the helm of the scuffy blue boat!
