my forestay and backstay appear very loose yet there is no way of tightning them i just wonder is this dangerous especially when racing —what can i do

THE SONATA FORESTAY IS USUALLY A FIXED LENGTH. ADJUSTMENT OF THE MAST RAKE IS MADE BY MOVING THE SHACKLE UP OR DOWN THE VERNIER PLATE AT THE FRONT END OF THE BOW WELL. SINCE THE SPREADERS ARE NOT SWEPT BACK, THEY OFFER VERY LITTLE FORE AND AFT SUPPORT OF THE MAST. THIS LEAVES ONLY THE BACKSTAY THAT CAN BE ADJUSTED. YOUR BACKSTAY SHOULD HAVE A TACKLE SYSTEM ON THE BRIDLE AT THE BOTTOM. SEE THE HINTS AND TIPS SECTION ON THIS WEBSITE FOR DETAILS.
