We have an old Sonata 7. The top most rudder bracket has one bolt with the head sheared off. On the lower most bracket on the inside of the boat one of the bolts shows signs of rusting. With the top most bracket I struggle to see how one can replace the bolts due to difficulty of access. Does anybody have any tips or ideas on how to refix these brackets? Thanks!

I would cut a hole through the cockpit skin with a hole cutter large enough that one hole would give access to two nuts and a second for the other two nuts then after replacing the bolts epoxy the cutout back into the holes. Good luck.

Ah! I was looking at these the other day, and have been wondering the same thing! They must have been put in when the boat is built.
Are they bolted into a threaded plate which is glassed in between the transom? That was the only way I could think it was done. In that case, maybe drill the old one out and put a bigger one in.
Have nothing more useful to add though
