Dear All,
I have just bought a Sonata, Ping Pong, here in Hong Kong. It is re-registered with the Marine Department here under a new owner’s details etc. However, I was wondering how the sail numbering system works? Does the sail need to show the manufacturer’s number of the Sonata or the numbr of the local licensing authority or the number of the sail issued by the boat owner’s club or whatnot? The previous boat to the Sonata was an Enterprise dinghy, the sail number of which lets people know how old it is immediately. Any thoughts would be appreciated and I am aware the system in UK is likely to be different from that here in HK.
best rgds,
Joe

Joe,
Within the UK the sail numbering starts with the country simble (eg GBR) and then followed by the boat number that should be printer on the stern of the boat, below the top rubber pivot, or on the manufactures stamp. I also believe that this figure this then followed by the letter “N” as this is a National one design class.
I hope that this information will help.
Kind Regards
Matt
