I’ve been crewing on someone else’s J-92 for a number of years now and I’m have decided I now want to be in charge.
The Sonata looks like a potential good first boat, one-design, small crew, sailed in the Solent and with a purchase price I can afford (upto £6k).
However I’d like some idea of what the running costs will be and what clubs in the Solent are active.
Any help or Advice would be greatfully recived.

Luke,
Although I am not a South Coast Sonata sailor, I thought you might be interested in the National Sonata class at Cowes Week. This would be an excellent venue to find out more (4-11th August 2001). The website address is below
http://www.cowesweek.co.uk/2001/main.php?section=home&map=cw01&style=std
Look under boats and class info -> National Sonata
I sail in Scotland and I reckon to spend about £1000 per annum average on maintainence/sails/racing insurance etc. (this does not include costs of berthing)
Andrew Fernie (Class Secretary) lives in the south (andchris@ntlworld.com) and he will be able to give you loads more info.
