I’m not having much luck getting my hands on a second hand trailer so it looks like I may have to splash out on a new one!!
So I’m looking for anyone out there who has experience.
It needs to be able to launch and recover from salt water.
So far I’ve spoken to Keels on Wheels who quoted

I bought a keels on wheels after much deliberation and would recommend it unconditionally. As for the bearings, basic maintenance will extend the life, and non sealed bearings can be flushed through with fresh water so much more easily. Can sealed bearings be offered as an option? My trailer was even delivered (part way) to me.
I do have the cradle seriously for sale, but no wheels – pics available – 07770 483258

I bought a 2nd hand 4 Wheel tilt bed car transporter on ebay. It’s excellent. The cradle with boat on top is easily winched onto and rolled off the trailer. The cradle has small “Dolly Wheels” like most Sonata Cradles. If you launch down a smooth slipway the trailers bearings never get near the water salt or fresh. Towing is a dream. With boat off the trailer either in the water or on cradle in back yard you can use the empty trailer to shift all those old cars and other junk from here to there to your hearts content! Cost was

We have a flat bed car trailer of the type that Tom refers to . It may be for sale seperately if our boat does not sell.
Good luck on the trailer search.

Sorry Ross-Seems I just replied with your message! How did I do that?
Look at Ian Preston’s Website- http://www.prestonswelding.co.uk/index.htm
He’s a knowledgable guy who trailer sails himself. He’s accommodating on any customised requirement.
He’ll part deliver free and is very competetive in price.
Towing is a dream with the low centre of gravity and I’m very pleased with the package I received.
Best recommendation I could give would be I’d go back to him for any requirement. He delivered on time and within budget. He communicated well and spoke the business!
I’ll E mail some pics of sonata on trailer if you wish.
Good luck in your quest.

Hi Kenny,
I think I’m going to go for this!!
Ian was very good when I spoke to him on the phone and he has sent me pics, some of which have Misselaineyus in them. Have you ever launched from the trailer into salt water? And if so any issues?
Boat looks good BTW!!

Picked up my Keels on Wheels trailer from Ian Preston last weekend who drove up to the lakes to save me a bit of travelling!! From placing the order for the trailer to it being finished ready to collect only took 3weeks!
Build quality is good, this isn’t just a standard trailer with bits added on to make it fit a Sonata. It’s been specifically designed for the boat and it fits like a glove!!
I decided to get Kip marina to lift the boat onto the trailer, only

I have just ordered trailer from Keels on Wheels. For info price gone up to

Kenny Allen has a Keels on Wheels trailer and it looks great – big support pads, low ride height and would be ideal for floating onto at Windermere as the trailer needs to be immersed so much less, making it easier to guide in the keel. So that’s the way I’d go if on fresh water – however if the manufacturer is advising against its use in salt water then its a big issue to ignore that sort of advice, and also probably a credit to that guy for being so honest!
Despite assurances from others that sealed bearings are fine for salt water immersion I remain unconvinced and therefore on my first Sonata we had a piggy back trailer – basically a wheeled cradle and a low-loader trailer. You have to be careful though…..some car trailers actually have quite a high load height which when coupled with the cradle wheels makes the overall load height very high.
Martin Hartley had a galvanised wheeled cradle for sale (
