I have stripped the bottom of the boat back to the epoxy, and now i have to decide which antifoul to use. International recommend VC Offshore with Teflon, but is it worth the cost ? Anyone got any thoughts ? What does Steve Goacher use ?
Cheers

Hi Neil
I am now back to gelcoat so i could go the VC route, weight considerations are not paramount ( you should see the size of some of my crew) i still have a few weeks before the weather warms up and i have to decide what to use. Maybe i should use the cheap stuff and treat myself to a new no.1
I’ll give it another couple of weeks and see if anyone else has any thoughts.
Cheers

We have gone for one of the cheaper options but im of the opinion that a well wet and dryed hull is faster than a polished one. When coaching (RYA Zone Squads) this is the advice we give which is also supported by the National squad coaches. Unfortunatly that means more work for me!!!

I use the VC Offshore Extra (with Teflon) ‘cos, like other “hard” antifouling, you can polish it – which I reckon is another very small thing that helps when racing. The drawback is that you end up with more layers than you need (maybe I should be polishing the old layer off!). It’s also heavy – so you could argue the small gain in smoothness is offset by the weight!
I’ve even got VC Tar underneath it to protect the old hull (hull number 17).
Plenty of folks I know use Micron (the soft antifouling that falls off) and are perfectly happy.
I don’t think “Eric the boat” has antifouling – if I ever get close enough I’ll have a look.
